Named in honor of the theatrical artist Sonnenthal. Helionape is the Greek translation (Sonne = helio, Tal = nape). Adolf Ritter von Sonnenthal (1834–1909), famous actor at the Vienna Burgtheater and later director of this institution, was known world-wide by many guest performances in Europe and America.
