Sunday inspiration: Poetry for Mars Retrograde

24 Jun 2018, 06:59 am

You have spent a lifetime
quietly mourning or ignoring
your losses and your lostness
with no funeral, no wake and no way
to nurture your joy.

Time for a burial.
No, for a burning!
For a great funeral pyre
that will light the night sky.
Then a festal meal of bread and wine.
And, from the ashes, perhaps some kind of rising.

Ian Adams Unfurling

As Mars prepares to retrograde, as it does every two years or so, it’s a good time to look back at these losses and our sense of “lostness” and reclaim the space that is being held in our psyche by these old and long ignored hurts and wounds.  Perhaps we can begin to let go a bit of the stories that keep us trapped and unable to move forward.

Mars is a motivator – it fuels the fire of our drives and desires, and when thwarted it can morph into anger and rage.  Emotional wounds are another source of anger when our needs (Mars) aren’t met.

I love this poem which inspires us not to bury these old wounds but to immolate them with a fire of passion and wonder, followed by a celebration to make way for the new life.
