Greifswald, the old German Hanse city on the Baltic Sea, is a scientific, economic and cultural center. The Ernst-Moritz-Arndt University, founded around 1456, has an astronomical tradition that has now been revived through the associated Greifswald Observatory. The name was suggested by the first discoverer.
