In a 1992 study of 170 astrolabes, British industrial chemist Rowland K. E. Torode (b. 1923) measured the ecliptic longitudes of the stars depicted and thereby determined, with allowance for precession, the ages of the instruments. He was also secretary of the Kidderminster Astronomical Society for several years.
