Hans Ruckers (1555–1623) was the most famous of all harpsichord makers and founder of a dynasty of Flemish instrument makers. His earliest (1581) known instrument is a virginal with two independent keyboards, now in New York City. These instruments were so prized that they were often rebuilt, enlarged and copied.
