Tilman Spohn (b. 1950) was director of the Institute of Planetary Research at the German Aerospace Center (DLR) in Berlin. He pioneered in-situ measurements of thermal and mechanical properties of planetary surfaces and was Principal Investigator for the instrument MUPUS on the Rosetta lander Philae.
