Bertolt Brecht (1898–1956), German author, songwriter, producer and social critic, was born in Augsburg. His Leben des Galilei (1943) is a true masterpiece. In 1933 he left Germany and finally found refuge in the U.S. In 1949, he founded the Berliner Ensemble in East Berlin, together with H. Weigel. (M 40708) _ _.
