Kálmán Kandó (1869-1931) was one of the creators of the electric railway. He developed high-voltage three-phase alternating-current motors and generators. Europe's first electrified main railway line, the Valtellina line in Italy, was based on his design. This minor planet was discovered on the 133rd anniversary of his birth.
