Willem Vermandere (b. 1940), a Flemish singer of countryside songs, performs in the colorful West Flemish dialect “Westhoek”. Although barely understood by his fellow countrymen, he is esteemed for his critical views on society, the church and World War I. His song Blance and his horse is well known.
