The German engineer Otto Lilienthal (1848–1896) explored the aerodynamics of the flight of birds. Beginning in 1891, he flew more than 2000 times with homemade gliders, with his last flight ending in a fatal crash. With his brother Gustav (1849–1933), he conducted experiments that provided important knowledge about flight. (M 41033) _ _.
