Mt. Norikura (3026 m high), part of the northern Japan Alps, is an extinct volcano, located at the boundary of Nagano and Gifu prefectures. Its ninth stage, “Tatamidaira”, Japan’s highest site reachable by car, is visited by many astrophotographers. The Norikura Solar Observatory is located at one of its peaks. (M 41387) _ _.
