Named in honor of John A. Miller, founder of the Astronomy Department at Indiana University and first director of the Kirkwood {see planet  (1578)} Observatory which he built and named for his former teacher. Later he built the Sproul Observatory at Swarthmore College to continue and expand the double star program he had started in Indiana. (M 4236) _ _.
