Named in honor of Richard E. McCrosky {1924– }, in appreciation of his role in the recovery of (1862) Apollo. On the staff of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, he has been in charge of the Prairie Network for the observations of fireballs, which led to the recovery of the Lost City meteorite in 1970.
