Named in honor of Richard E. McCrosky {1924– }, in appreciation of his role in the recovery of (1862) Apollo. On the staff of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, he has been in charge of the Prairie Network for the observations of fireballs, which led to the recovery of the Lost City meteorite in 1970. From 1970 to 1973 he was president of IAU Commission 22. (M 3936) _ _.
