This Apollo-type minor planet was named previously for the lover of Aphrodite {see planet  (1388)}. Adonis was ordered by Zeus {see planet  (5731)} to spend part of each year with Aphrodite and part with Persephone {see planet  (399)}. He is regarded as a god of vegetation and of swine and was killed by a boar sent by Artemis {see planet  (105)}. (M 4548) _ _.
