Named by the discoverer in honor of Academician Evgenij Kirillovich Kharadze {1907– }, founder and director since 1932 of the Abastumani {see planet
(1390)} Astrophysical Observatory, Vice-President (1972–1978) and now President of the Academy of Sciences of the Georgian S.S.R., and Vice-President of the IAU (1976–1982). He has made numerous contributions to the study of interstellar matter and the structure of the Galaxy. He is the author of several astronomical textbooks in the Georgian language and has developed a modern Georgian astronomical terminology. (M 4788) _ _.
