Named in memory of Paul Götz, first assistant of Max Wolf {see planets  (827) and  (1217)} at the Heidelberg-Königstuhl Observatory during 1903–1905. Götz was a skillful and diligent observer with the Bruce telescope and the 0.15-m astrograph. He discovered 20 minor planets. (M 18447) _ _.
