This German family of printers and booksellers dates back to Dietrich Baedeker (1680-1716). In 1827, Karl Baedeker (1801-1859) founded a publishing house at Koblenz. It became well-known for its guidebooks, translated into many languages, that cover nearly all countries of Europe, Near East and North America.
