Godfrey Harold Hardy (1877–1947) was the foremost English pure mathematician of his generation. He wrote hundreds of papers — many of them jointly with other outstanding mathematicians such as Littlewood and Ramanujan {see planet 4130)} — on Diophan-tine approximations, number theory, inequalities and summability of series.
