With his fundamental contributions to solar physics, John Warren Harvey (b. 1940) has advanced the understanding of solar magnetic fields and oscillations. He was largely responsible for the successful implementation of the Kitt Peak Vacuum Tower Telescope, the GONG helioseismology network and the SOLIS instrument.
