The Dutch physicist Hendrick Antoon Lorentz (1853–1928) formulated the classic electron theory and predicted the Zeeman {see planet (29212)} effect. He derived the Lorentz transformation, the Lorentz contraction, time dilation and the velocity dependence of the mass. He shared the 1902 Nobel Prize for physics with his student Zeeman.
