Dutch physicist Pieter Zeeman (1865–1943) discovered the splitting of spectral lines in the magnetic field, allowing the analysis of the atomic fine structure. He also made a verification of special relativity. He shared the 1902 Nobel Prize for physics with his teacher Lorentz {see planet (29208)}. (M 45750) _ _.
