Named in honor of Armand H. Delsemme, professor of astrophysics at the University of Toledo, Ohio, recognized for his extensive investigations of the chemical, physical, dynamical and evolutionary processes of comets. In 1952 he proposed, with P. Swings {see planet  (1637)}, that cometary nuclei contain clathrate hydrates of gases, a theory that has been popular ever since. In 1976 he organized and edited the proceedings of the Lyons IAU colloquium “ Comets, Asteroids and Meteorites”. (M 11158) _ _.
