Named in memory of Karl Stumpff (1895–1970), eminent celestial mechanist and professor of astronomy at Berlin, Graz and Göttingen. His method of treatment of periodic processes was a forerunner of the Fast Fourier Analysis. The collected experience of decades of research went into his main scientific heritage, the three-volume Himmelsmechanik. (M 22497) _ _.
