Named in memory of renowned sculptor Arnold Machin (1911–1999). His sculpture of the effigy of queen Elizabeth II was used on British coinage from 1968 until 1984. Machin also sculpted the monarch’s profile, and this formed the basis for the Machin definitive series of British definitive stamps, first issued in June 1967 and still in use today. (M 34618) _ _.
