Named for Francis Baily (1774–1844), English astron?omer and one of the founders of the Royal Astronomical Society. During his observation of the total solar eclipse of 1836 he noticed intrusions of sunlight around the Moon’s limb, which have become known as Baily’s beads. (M 10847) _ _.
