Named for John Goodricke (1764–1786), the deaf and dumb Dutch-English astronomer who studied the light variations of the star Algol and correctly suggested that it is what we now call an eclipsing variable. He also discovered and studied the variable star Delta Cephei. (M 10847) _ _.
