Named in memory of Thomas R. Widorn, for several decades an astronomer at the Vienna University Observatory. Widorn is best known for his discovery of an inverse relationship between the geometric albedo and the rate of change of the optical polarization with solar phase angle, which led to improved estimates of the diameters of minor planets.
