Named in honor of Viktor Abramovich Shor {1929–}, member of the staff of the Institute for Theoretical Astronomy in Leningrad, on the occasion of his sixtieth birthday, 1989 Sept. 29. Best known for his extensive work in connection with editing and compiling the annual volume of Ephemerides of Minor Planets {see planet (5001)}, he has also carried out significant research on a theory of the motion of the satellites of Mars.
