Named in honor of Gordon A. Swann, geologist at Northern Arizona University. As principal investigator for the geological field investigations conducted at the Apollo 14 and 15 lunar landing sites, Swann forged a close knit and effective exploration effort that linked geologists, mission control engineers and the astronaut crew. The result was a rich return of geologic data from the first manned lunar missions planned explicitly for scientific exploration. (M 15576) _ _.
