Named in memory of Heinrich Schütz (1585–1672), the greatest German composer of the seventeenth century, born in Kostritz, 22 km from Tautenburg, and a very important precursor to J. S. Bach {see planet (1814)}. The epoch-making work of Schütz is principally documented in numerous pieces of sacred music. (M 16043) _ _.
