German astronomer Walter F. Wislicenus (1859-1905) was an ardent observer at the Strasbourg Observatory and derived an accurate value for the rotation period of Mars. He is best known for his editing of the first six volumes (beginning in 1899) of the Astronomischer Jahresbericht. The name was suggested by L. D. Schmadel.
