Named after a mountain in west central Sumatra, site of the U.S. Naval Observatory and other expeditions to the total solar eclipse of May 17, 1901. It gives off smoke more or less continuously and the name means “with fire”. It should not to be confused with the nearby active volcano of the same name in central Java. The discoverer was a member of the eclipse expedition. (H 57) _ _.
