Named in honor of Georg Comello (1942– ), Dutch amateur astronomer. His interests in astronomy include variable stars, comets and traveling around the world to observe solar eclipses. Since 1960 he has been employed at the Kapteyn Institute of the University of Groningen, currently as a librarian. He assisted L. Plaut {see planet
(1986)} in measuring and analyzing his plates of variable stars and is still on the board of the Working Group for Variable Star Observers. For several years he has been the draftsman of the Sterrengids (the Dutch yearbook on astronomical events), for which he prepares in particular finding charts for minor planets.
