Named for the town in the northwestern part of the Peloponnese where Zeus {see planet  (5731)} had a famous temple with a celebrated statue by Phidias {see planet  (4753)}. The statue was reckoned one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. At Olympia the Olympic games originated in 776 B.C. (Z 182) _ _.
