Named in honor of Stuart B. Shaklan, an optical engineer, who performed the imaging design and analysis required for the Near-Earth Asteroid Tracking program. He developed the models needed to understand the performance of the NEAT optical system and analyzed the imaging results to determine the optimal instrument configuration. His expertise in CCD characterization and telescope design for high-precision astrometry was an important element of the NEAT success. (M 26930) _ _.
