Named in honor of Ichiro Shimizu (1923–1996), who began work for the Tokyo Astronomical Observatory in 1945 and was heavily involved in the construction of the Corona Observing Station on Mt. Norikura. He was later a key astronomer in the solar physics division of the Observatory until he retired in 1984. (M 29146) _ _.
