Named for George Kildare Miley (1942– ) to honor his 25-year association with the Leiden Observatory. A senior scientist at the Space Telescope Science Institute during 1984–1988, he became a professor in Leiden in 1988. His research has included investigations of radio, optical, infrared and x-ray properties of active galaxies. He instigated an extensive new radio survey of the northern sky and in 1989 discovered the galaxy 4C 41.17 with the largest known redshift. (M 26765) _ _.
