Named in honor of Mikhail Vasil'evich Grinev (b. 1929), outstanding Russian surgeon, director of St. Petersburg Djanelidze Research Institute of Emergency Medicine from 1984 to 1998, member of the board of directors of the European Association of Trauma and Emergency Surgery, professor of St. Petersburg Medical University and medical academy for postgraduate training. Grinev is internationally renowned for his classic research in the field of emergency surgery, polytrauma and shock.
