Named in honor of Leo P. Connolly, astronomer and teacher at California State University, San Bernardino, and director (1985–1995) of the Summer Science Program, held for six weeks each summer at the Thacher School in Ojai. In this tranquil setting, and with a rigorous curriculum requiring high-school students to take photographic plates of minor planets and learn how to determine their orbits, Leo and his wife Jackie have nurtured the minds and spirits of nearly 400 bright and motivated young men and women.
