Named in honor of Catherine de Bergh (1945– ), planetary scientist at the Paris Observatory who has studied the composition of the giant and terrestrial planets. She found CO on Titan and HDO in the Martian atmosphere. She has described the chemistry of Venus’ lower atmosphere and has also been interested in the icy surfaces of Io, Triton and Pluto. She enthusiastically works for international cooperation in studying the solar system. (M 27462) _ _.
