Named in honor of Steven H. Pravdo, who works in the fields of X-ray astrophysics and extrasolar planet detection, as well as in mission and instrument development for space programs at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory. As the task manager for the Near-Earth Asteroid Tracking system, he has contributed to the design, fabrication, installation and operations of NEAT.
