Named in honor of Monica Lazzarin (b. 1963), Italian planetary scientist at Padova Observatory. Lazzarin is an expert in the spectroscopic observation of comets and minor planets and has obtained interesting results on the relationship between these objects. She has studied aqueous alteration in C-class minor planets and has helped understand the compositions of the Centaurs. Lazzarin is involved in planning the Rosetta mission. Name suggested and citation prepared by M. A. Barucci and M. Fulchignoni.
