Named in honor of Keiichi Saijo (b. 1949), senior curator of the astronomy section of National Science Museum, Tokyo, known for observational research on eclipsing variables, long-period variables and for public education in astronomy. He has been chair of the Variable Star Observers League in Japan since its founding and secretary of the Association of Public Astronomical Observatories. He is also a distinguished fellow of Saji Observatory. Name proposed by the discoverers following a suggestion by Y. Yamada.
