Named for a king of Sparta, father of Clytemnestra and Helena {see planets  (179) and  (101)}. Often it is said, however, that Tyndareus was the foster-father of Helena, because Helena is generally considered to have been the daughter of Zeus and Leda {see, respectively, planets  (5731) and  (38)}.
