Hortobágy, an 800-square-km national park in eastern Hungary, is Hungary's largest protected area and the largest natural grassland in Europe. The area was designated a national park in 1973, and it was listed among the World Heritage sites in 1999. A Starry Sky Park is being set up in the area.
