Gertrud von Helfta (1256-1302), “the Great”, lived in the nunnery of Helfta near Eisleben. She is one of the greatest German mystics. Her popular poetic writings Legatus Divinae Pietatis and Exercitia Spiritualia represent her religious experiences and the theological view of her time.
