Alfred E. Rambaldo (1879-1911), born on the island of Java, did extensive research on the upper layers of the atmosphere. He was also a great promoter of aviation, especially balloons/airships in the Netherlands and in the Dutch East Indies, where he died during a balloon accident. The name was suggested by W. A. Fröger.
