Ronald L. Thiel (b. 1937) is the Division Chief of the Traffic Division for the County of Hawaii. In his capacity as traffic engineer, he has overseen the installation of shielded LED streetlights and other lighting that is designed to minimize impact on the dark night sky over the Mauna Kea Observatories.
