With Bruges and Ghent {see planets  (9472) and  (9473)}, Ypres virtually controlled Flanders in the thirteenth century. During the Middle Ages, it became a major cloth-weaving city. Within the bulge of the British lines during World War I, Ypres was completely destroyed, subsequently to be rebuilt in its original style. (M 36129) _ _.
