The German physician Christoph Wilhelm Hufeland (1762–1836) was professor of medicine in Jena and Berlin {see planets  (526) and  (422)}. He attended Schiller and Goethe {see planets  (3079) and  (3047)}, tried to reconcile the methods of naturopathy with scientific findings and introduced smallpox vaccination.
